Judge Boshier

A Judge came to speak to my law class today, and he said: “I wake up every morning and think to myself – what kind of neat things will I do today? I hope I can make a difference in people’s lives, because that’s why I do this”.

He almost cried when he told us about how we have to think about what we’re doing with our lives, for example as a lawyer we could earn $200,000 a year, but could we just get by on $100,000 and spend more time with our families? And I could see his eyes watering up because he had a marriage breakdown.

When was the last time your heart was broken?

I work at Countdown and this morning one guy came in to buy some crossaints and a drink, but his card got declined, so he said he’ll just get the crossaints. But then his card was declined again, and he looked at me and tried to smile and was like: “Oh, I’ll have to talk to my boss ‘cos he was meant to pay me yesterday”. And it just made me so sad because he couldn’t buy what he wanted and had to go home hungry.
